We Don't Just Clean Carpet. We're Surgeons.

The name isn't an accident. Carpet repair requires precision, patience, and craft — knowing exactly where to cut, how to match pile direction and pattern, how to seam so it disappears. Our team has been doing this for over 40 years and we take pride in making the repair invisible. There's always an option, even if you don't have extra carpet.

Section Repair on Difficult Patterned Carpet

Matching pattern carpet is the hardest repair in the trade. Watch the transformation — this is the level of precision our team brings to every job.

What we repair

If Carpet Can Be Fixed, We Fix It.

We specialize in repairs — not just the easy ones. Here's everything we handle, and we'll always tell you honestly what's possible before we touch anything.

🐾

Pet Damage

Chewing, scratching, digging — dogs and cats can destroy a section of carpet fast. We cut out the damaged section, source matching carpet (sometimes from a closet), and do a clean section repair. Also see our full pet urine damage restoration service for urine damage that goes deeper.

🔥

Burns

Cigarette burns, iron marks, fireplace embers — burned carpet can be repaired with a section repair if the area is small enough. We cut out the damaged section cleanly and replace it with matching carpet. Most burn repairs are invisible when done right.

🎨

Bleach Spots & Permanent Stains

Bleach destroys carpet dye permanently — no cleaning product fixes it. Same with certain chemicals and heavy staining. The only real solution is a section repair. We remove the stained section and replace it. You won't see it when we're done.

〰️

Ripped & Split Seams

Seams that have separated, puckered, or come apart completely. We re-seam using heat-bonded tape and proper technique so the seam lays flat and doesn't come apart again. Poorly done seams from the original installation are one of our most common repair calls.

🏗️

Other Companies' Mistakes

We get a lot of calls cleaning up after other installers. Visible seams, crooked cuts, pattern mismatches, carpet bunching at transitions — if another company did it wrong, we can usually fix it. No judgment, just results.

↗️

Frayed & Damaged Transitions

Carpet fraying at doorways, transitions to hardwood or tile, or at the top of stairs. Sometimes these areas can be re-stretched and re-secured rather than replaced — check our carpet stretching page for details. When stretching isn't an option, we cut clean and install proper transition hardware.

🪜

Stair Repairs

Carpet coming loose on stairs, damaged treads, fraying at the nosing. Stair carpet gets more wear than any other area and needs proper re-securing. We stretch, repair, and re-tack stair carpet so every step is tight and safe.

🔲

Section Repairs (Our Specialty)

Our most common and most technical repair. We cut out a damaged section — cleanly, precisely — source matching carpet, and seam it back in so it blends. Pattern matching, pile direction, texture — we get it right. This is what separates a true craftsman from someone with a carpet knife.

Don't have extra carpet? That's not a dead end — it's just a different conversation. We can often pull carpet from a hidden area (inside a closet, under a piece of built-in furniture) and use it for the repair, putting a less-perfect match in the hidden spot. We'll tell you the options and let you decide.

Our signature repair

What is a Section Repair?

A section repair — sometimes called a patch or plug — is the process of cutting out a damaged section of carpet and replacing it with a matching piece. It sounds simple. It isn't.

The hard part is the seam. A visible seam means the repair failed. Getting a seam to disappear requires matching the pile direction exactly, cutting both pieces with precisely the same angle, using the right seaming tape and iron temperature, and knowing how to blend the edges so they look like one piece of carpet.

Our team has been doing this for over 40 years. Pattern carpet, textured carpet, berber, plush — we've seen every type and we know how each one behaves. The video above shows a particularly difficult pattern repair. Watch the seam disappear.

We call these section repairs because we're surgical about it — cut precisely, match perfectly, seam invisibly. No bigger cut than necessary. No waste. Clean results.

Real questions

Carpet Repair FAQs

What Portland homeowners actually ask us — and actually ask Google.

Almost always, yes. Carpet replacement is rarely necessary for isolated damage — burns, pet damage, bleach spots, seam problems, and fraying transitions are all repairable. The exception is when damage is widespread throughout the room, or when the carpet is so old or worn that a repair would look worse than the damage. We'll give you an honest answer on-site.
Our minimum is $225 and most small to mid-size repairs — burns, small pet damage, seam fixes, single section repairs — fall right at that number. Transitions to hardwood or tile are around $79 each, subject to the minimum. Larger or more complex repairs are quoted after we see the job. Estimates are always free.
Yes — this comes up all the time and it's not a dead end. We can often pull carpet from a hidden area — inside a closet, under built-in furniture, inside a pantry — and use it for the repair. That spot gets a close match. It's not perfect but in a closet, nobody notices. We'll walk through the options with you and let you decide what makes sense.
You can try — but the results are usually pretty obvious. Getting an invisible seam requires the right tools, the right technique, and a feel for how carpet behaves that takes years to develop. The most common result of DIY carpet repair is a visible repair that costs more to redo than the original fix would have. We wrote a blog post walking through the steps if you want to see what's involved: check it out here. Our honest take: for anything you care about looking good, call a professional.
Bleach destroys carpet dye permanently — it can't be cleaned, re-dyed, or chemically reversed in most cases. The correct fix is a section repair: cut out the bleached area cleanly and replace it with a matching piece. Done well, the repair is invisible. Done poorly, you'll see the seam. This is exactly what we specialize in.
Yes — this is one of our most common calls. Seams fail for a few reasons: they were never done properly in the first place, the seaming tape dried out over time, or high-traffic areas caused the bond to break. We re-seam using heat-bonded tape and proper technique so the seam lays flat and stays together. Most seam repairs are done in a single visit.
Yes — pet damage (chewing, scratching, digging) is one of our most common repair types. We cut out the damaged section precisely, source matching carpet, and seam it back in. If the damage also goes into the pad and subfloor, we handle that too — see our pet urine damage restoration page for more on that side of things.
Most single repairs take 1-2 hours. A burn or small pet damage section repair is usually an hour or less. More complex jobs — multiple areas, pattern matching, seam work throughout a room — can take half a day. We'll give you a realistic time estimate when we see the job.
Repair fixes physical damage to the carpet — cuts, burns, stains, chewing. Stretching fixes carpet that's gone loose and developed ripples or buckles. Sometimes a frayed edge can be fixed with stretching instead of cutting — check our carpet stretching page to see if that applies to your situation. We do both, and we'll tell you which one you actually need.
If it's done right, no — or nearly not at all. The goal of every section repair is an invisible seam. We get close every time. Pattern carpet is harder than solid — that's where 40 years of experience matters most. We don't cut corners on seams because a visible repair reflects on us. We'll be upfront if we think a particular repair will be harder to hide than average.
